Initial Assessment & Stabilization of Pediatric Trauma Patients

Dr. Brian S. Skrainka, medical director for St. David's Children's Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department, discusses the epidemiology of pediatric trauma, the unique anatomical and physiological characteristics of children and describes the initial assessment and stabilization of pediatric trauma patients in preparation for transport.  Dr. Skrainka also details the importance of understanding trauma management of individual organ systems and maintaining good communication with the personnel at the receiving hospital and with the family.
